My report on the unprecedented ruling by the International Court of Justice, in response to South Africa’s case accusing Israel of genocide in Gaza, in which the Court found it plausible that Israel’s actions since October 7 have demonstrated genocidal intent, and ordered Israel not to undertake any further acts that may constitute genocide, to punish senior Israeli officials who have made genocidal statements, to enable the provision of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza, and to report back within a month regarding its compliance with the Court’s ruling.

The video of, and my report about the powerful online panel discussion, hosted by the New America think-tank, marking the 22nd anniversary of the opening of the prison at Guantánamo Bay on January 11, featuring former prisoner Mohamedou Ould Slahi, UN Rapporteur Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, and myself, moderated by New America’s Vice President, Peter Bergen.

My report about, and photos from the UK Guantánamo Network’s march and rally for the closure of Guantánamo in London on Saturday (January 20). Dozens of campaigners in orange jumpsuits and hoods marched up Whitehall from the Houses of Parliament to Trafalgar Square, where the rally was held, with speakers including Apsana Begum MP and myself, and afterwards a letter was handed in to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at 10 Downing Street.

My latest article about Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, in which I examine how the widespread and justifiable alarm about Benjamin Netanyahu’s coalition government, elected just over a year ago — and, in particular, the elevation to ministerial positions of two far-right party leaders, Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich — gave way instantly to amnesia in the west after the deadly attacks by Hamas militants and other militants on October 7, and absolutely unfettered and unconditional support for Israel’s “right to defend itself,” even though Israel’s leaders immediately began to express genocidal intent. I examine what it exposes about western leaders’ thinly-veiled enthusiasm for settler colonialism, the particular enthusiasm of President Biden for genocide, and the hugely harmful power of Israeli lies — in particular, the 40 beheaded babies lie that has done to much to inspire a horribly widespread genocidal frenzy, both in Israel and the west. I conclude by calling on the millions of opponents of Israel’s genocide to stay strong, not only for the Palestinians themselves, but also to preserve freedom of speech in our own countries, which is being shamefully undermined through the entirely false notion that criticism of Israel is antisemitism.

Photos from, and my report about the 21 vigils that took place across the US and around the world on January 11, 2024, marking the shameful 22nd anniversary of the opening of the “war on terror” prison at Guantánamo Bay. Monthly vigils resume on the first Wednesday of every month next month, on February 7.

Publicizing the shameful and unforgivable 22nd anniversary of the opening of the prison at Guantánamo Bay on January 11, listing the online events taking place, and the 20 vigils and rallies across the US, and in London and Mexico City, and also asking supporters to take a photo with the Close Guantánamo campaign’s poster marking 8,036 days of the prison’s existence on January 11, and urging President Biden to close it without further delay.

Linking to, and discussing my recent interview with the US radio host and activist Misty Winston on TNT Radio, in which we discussed Israel’s genocide in Gaza, and the imminent 22nd anniversary of the opening of the prison at Guantánamo Bay.

My latest article, marking ten weeks of Israel’s relentless genocidal assault on Gaza, in which nearly 25,000 Palestinians — mostly civilians — have now been killed, including nearly 10,000 children and babies, and over 5,000 women. As Israel’s bombing raids continue, and the humanitarian crisis escalates, I also examine the behaviour of Israeli ground troops, particularly in northern Gaza, where, amongst countless crimes, including the stripping and dehumanisation of captured civilian men and boys, they are also alleged to have bulldozered to death internally displaced civilians outside a hospital, and are also alleged to have shot civilians, including babies and children, in cold blood and at close range, in a school where they were seeking shelter. As the horrors get worse, it can only be hoped that yesterday’s killing, by IDF soldiers, of three Israeli hostages who had managed to escape their captors, will finally provoke a return to the negotiating table, to bring about a ceasefire and the further exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners held in Israel’s brutal military prisons.

My latest fundraiser, in which I explain why my work is uncompromising and uncompromised because I’m an independent reader-supported journalist and activist, and ask for your support to enable me to keep writing about Guantánamo, and campaigning to get the prison closed, over the next three months.

Photos from, and my report about the nine coordinated global vigils for the closure of Guantánamo that took place on December 6, 2023 across the US and around the world, coinciding with 8,000 days of the prison’s existence, marked by a photo campaign involving former prisoners, lawyers, politicians and campaigners from around the world, for which we received an impressive 170 photos.
