Israel is damned forever by this extraordinarily powerful documentary film in which its elite intelligence operatives incriminate themselves, and Israel’s entire military, political and intelligence leadership, in the greatest scandal in the history of modern warfare: civilian slaughter on an unprecedented scale through systems of total surveillance, insanely overbroad AI-driven military targeting, and a complete disregard for any notions of proportionality regarding civilian “collateral damage.”
Last night I saw “NAZA”, the documentary film about Israel’s genocide in Gaza, directed by two Israelis, the journalist Yuval Abraham and the filmmaker Rachel Szor, which is chilling audiences worldwide at screenings prior to its free release online at the end of this month via the Guardian, whose Guardian Films offshoot co-produced it.
The film lays out, with devastating clarity, how, particularly in the first three months of its genocidal assault on Gaza, the State of Israel engaged in civilian slaughter on an unprecedented scale through systems of total surveillance, AI-driven military targeting, and a complete disregard for any notions of proportionality regarding civilian “collateral damage.”
“NAZA” is an Israeli military acronym for “collateral damage”, and, in conversations with 24 Israeli intelligence personnel, mainly working for the elite Unit 8200, who were filmed in shadows on the rooftops of Tel Aviv, and who, for one reason or another, had all felt some sort of compunction to speak out, Yuval Abraham allowed them, and sometimes gently nudged them to explain how such sweeping, barbaric mass slaughter had taken place.
