25.6.23
Linking to, and discussing, The New Arab’s podcast, “Searching for Justice at Guantánamo: Tainted evidence and the fight for accountability,” in which Nadine Talaat tells the story of the prison, and, in particular, the case of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, through interviews with myself, Katie Carmon, one of his military commission lawyers, and former prisoner Mansoor Adayfi.
13.5.23
Linking to and discussing my interview with Chris Cook for Gorilla Radio, about the Coronation of King Charles III, the suppression of protest and the criminalization of refugees under home secretary Suella Braverman, as well as a discussion about Guantánamo.
24.3.23
Linking to, and discussing my recent interview with former CIA officer and whistleblower John Kiriakou, about Guantánamo past, present and future, for his new show ‘Whistleblowers,’ looking at how I got involved in researching and telling the stories of all the prisoners held at Guantánamo, how, shamefully, the law has persistently failed them, and how the prison might eventually be closed.
8.2.23
Linking to the video of my recent interview on Al Jazeera about the release from Guantánamo of Majid Khan, who has been resettled in Belize, almost eleven months after his terrorism-related sentence came to an end. I was also pleased to have had the opportunity to highlight how 20 other men, also approved for release, are still held, and to explain how unacceptable this is, and that it is because their approval for release came about through purely administrative review processes that, shamefully, have no legal weight.
26.1.23
Promoting, and linking to ‘Guantánamo Voices’, a one-hour show by Alex Fitch, broadcast on Resonance FM, featuring comics creator Sarah Mirk discussing her 2020 graphic novel anthology ‘Guantánamo Voices’, me discussing Guantánamo’s history, and a recording of former prisoner and author Mohamedou Ould Slahi and I discussing Guantánamo at an event in Brighton last March, during Mohamedou’s first UK speaking tour. Alex also opened and closed the show with songs by my band The Four Fathers.
23.1.23
The video – with my introduction – of ‘Guantánamo: 21 Years On’, the very first episode of a new English language show, ‘The London Circle’, broadcast by the Arabic news channel Al Hiwar TV, featuring Moazzam Begg and I in discussion with Anas Altikriti.
21.1.23
Linking to, and discussing my recent interview about the 21st anniversary of the opening of Guantánamo with Scott Horton, with whom I’ve been discussing Guantánamo and the “war on terror” on a regular basis for over 15 years.
9.12.22
Linking to and discussing my two recent interviews about Guantánamo and Julian Assange, with Jason Olbourne on TNT Radio in Australia, and with J. G. Michael for his ‘Parallax Views’ podcast, in which we also discussed recent claims by former prisoner Mansoor Adayfi that Republican presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis was present when he and other hunger strikers were being force-fed, and that he revelled in their suffering.
11.11.22
Linking to and discussing my recent radio interview with Bob Connors and Tom Walker of WSLR 96.5, a progressive community radio station in Sarasota, Florida, about the release from Guantánamo of 75-year old Saifullah Paracha, Guantánamo’s oldest prisoner, and the plight of the 20 other men approved for release, for whom no legal mechanism exists to actually compel the US government to free them, because the review processes that approved them for release are purely administrative.
24.10.22
Linking to, and discussing my recent interview with Chris Cook of Gorilla Radio in Canada, about the collapse of Liz Truss’s government, after just 44 days, the baleful influence of the Tufton Street ‘think-tanks’, and the unending agony of Brexit, plus discussion of the plight of Julian Assange and the current situation at Guantánamo. Chris also played the Four Fathers’ anti-Brexit anthem, ‘I Want My Country Back (From The People Who Wanted Their Country Back)’, and my article also includes some post-interview reflections on Rishi Sunak as the new Prime Minister, and the many challenges he faces, not least on Brexit.
