Why is it necessary to keep so many detainees? Gotta keep up the appearance that there are “bad guys” out there that are plotting to attack us as we speak, yeah that’s the ticket. These pesky Afghans have thrown a monkey wrench into the plans for the Trans Afghanistan Pipeline.

Nice job, important work by Worthington. We must never forget such groups of people who suffer egregious injustice. I notice that torture is not mentioned. Nevertheless, imprisoning humans for no cause, with no charges filed, for as much as 7-8 years is just unbelievable.

Possible reasons for the U.S. imprisonment of non-Americans, sometimes on the prisoners’ own home soil:
1. Sets an example of power to the indigenous populations of whatever nations are being occupied.
2. Sets an example of power to other nations.
3. Sets an example of power to Americans.
4. Satisfies the sadism in some American elite/PTB.
5. Because letting prisoners go and closing the prisons suggests ‘mistakes were made’ and someone might (gasp) be held accountable.
6. And ‘because they can’.

Some think electing Obama already fixed everything, some are focused on the issue du jour, some are just burnt out.
