Hi TD,
Great to hear from you. Thought you might appreciate some of Col. Wilkerson's insights, and thanks for the final words, which pepped me up like one of my favorite espresso shots!

Hi Will,
Just back from vacation and catching up on everything. Thanks for the comment, which perfectly captures the need to prosecute those responsible for eight years of torture, murder and lawlessness. Always good to hear from you.

If you would like to participate please email me. We will require:
·	Your text 350 – 800 words per item.

I even think that probably, in the summer of 2002, well before Powell gave his presentation at the UN in February 2003, their priority had shifted, as their expectation of another attack went down, and that happened, I think, rather rapidly. I’ve just stumbled on this. I thought before that it had persisted all the way through 2002, but I’m convinced now, from talking to hundreds of people, literally, that that’s not the case, that their fear of another attack subsided rather rapidly after their attention turned to Iraq, and after Tommy Franks, in late November as I recall, was directed to begin planning for Iraq and to take his focus off Afghanistan.

Well, often otherwise "reasonable" people keep insisting to me that Bush, Cheney, et al. have to be "cut some slack" regarding their [horrific, illegal, and utterly immoral and barbaric] actions because of the pressure they were under to prevent another attack. I've always insisted that this just was not something I [or any civilized human being] could abide: the threat posed by the Third Reich or by Soviet ICBMs was, in real terms, infinitely more deadly than by "the terrorists," and while there were abuses to be sure, neither of these events caused the kind of response taken by the Bush Administration at a structural level, including the insistence that people, even lawful residents and citizens, could just be consigned to a dungeon beyond law, or of course, that torture was not only justified, but that torture is awesome.

And yet, almost instanteously, America's main weapon, it's moral authority, was jettisoned in favor of barbarity, simply because our leadership fell into the hands of sociopathic, sadistic twits. [Let me note that I applaud Atty. Gen. Holder's commencement of investigations by Special Prosecutor Durham, and look forward to them taking their course until we drop our <strike>American</strike> Washington Beltway love for the reverse Nuremberg defense ("I was justgiving orders.")]

Great stuff re: Diego Garcia... I always thought a significantly larger number of prisoners were more than transited there; apparently. Also great stuff re confirming what so many have said so many times: hundreds and hundreds were held, but no more than two or three dozen were guilty of anything, let alone the "hardened terrorists" that the Government insisted that they were, and that most Americans (and few, if any, non-Americans) still believe they are.

Congratulations on getting Col. Wilkerson to speak to you and congratulations on a fabulous interview; once again, you have scooped the world.

So, when all of the reports are in and it is made clear what a complete screwed up mess George created when he wanted to play soldier, will we be allowed to do anything about his crimes? He had a Vice-President who clearly is psychotic and that is his defense but poor George only has his stupidity. Will it be enough if we do try to prosecute? And if we don't, if everybody in the world knows we torture prisoners, we kill our allies, we break all our treaties, we kill women and children, we bomb schools and hospitals, if everybody knows this, how will we ever be able to look anybody in the face and say "I am an American." ?
