About President Obama Speach In Cairo:

"1. Aside from a few platitudes, it is disappointingly weak on human rights
    and specifically women's rights.

2. It betrays a naiveté, perhaps feigned, about how the Arab world works."

Now here is where you all should get very, very mad. I have lived outside the US and during this time I worked as an advisor to a Prince, Brother to a Sultan of a Muslim Faith Country. I have no political views, only issues with the two parties. All of you that wrote before are being played by the US Political system. They are creating an argument to distract you so that you miss the real BS their pulling on you, me, us...

Here is it:

"... his oration means virtually nothing. Repression and suppression will go on uninterrupted. And to those whose abiding hatred of Israel (and thus America) is absolute, Obama's words will be seen as empty and hypocritical."

You see what should piss you off is that inside the Democratic Party, and Conversely the Republican Party, they know the right's from wrongs... The reasons Bush went and the reasons why this issues, that issues and all the issues What the Republicans have stood by throughout the Iraq ordeal is the sentence stated above by the Muslim former advisor to Hillary Clinton...

None of this crap of talking two sides together... Sadly, about the whole Gitmo ordeal, and one of the reasons I didn't head into the Military branch, is because we valued "Information at any cost" over conducting a war. Each of the Gitmo detainees I'm sure Bush knew he's get hell for it but in Context of the day, I would have stuffed them all in a ditch in-Country and they's have everyone tied up into some other argument/debate.

Do you all understand that we just printed 1 Trillion dollars? The racists Obama is printing money Ladies and Gentlemen... We are being sent into a death spiral and you're arguing over if the band should play... The only way out of the death spiral is World War or Civil War... Or unless you can think of 5 more things in the near future that would rival the whole of revenue generated by the silicon chip

I have to disagree with most of the critics of Obama's speech I am reading here.

This speech is not only rethoric, it is diplomacy. Diplomacy is a domain where this kind of warning is already a great act. The role of the United States is not to rule the world therefore it would have been a really unwise thing to do anything more than he has already done in this last 4 month. And we he says "America will align our policies with those who pursue peace", he use what is called the influence of his country.

My only concern is that the speech is just a bit too religious to my taste. But as he was first telling this to Muslims and Israelis, not to me. I have to agree that seems the best way to be heard.

PS : I would say I am also sadly used to hear only rethoric in the mouth of politicians, especially in the mouth of my country's president Mr Sarkozy. But I really think this speech is much more. That is one of the first time I have hope while hearing some politician's speech, and still more hope since it is from the world most powerful country's president.

Thank you.

Politicians produce ONLY rhetoric.

Those who run the U.S. and the world, the multi-national Corporations (General Electric, Dow Chemical, Exxon, Microsoft, Intel, Apple, etc.), which use the World Bank and the IMF to control nations, profit from war, conflict and fear, therefore, these will continue.

Expect no change.

What is past needs to be past for all concerned. Perhaps if you men can not handle your so called protection of society, we women from all over the world should come together and show how it is done. We want our men, our fathers and brothers and sons and mothers and sisters and daughters to live in a world not of rhetoric but of real compassion, tolerance and love. Simply put, we all know in our heart of hearts what that world would look like....and we live for but a short time...let's give ourselves and our children a real gift.... we need to do it. Perhaps women from all over the world can come together much easier than....let's see now.... lying, blood sucking corporations, hypocritical governments and secret mercenary armies that confound and confuse, killing whom they "liberate" and killing whom they "assimilate". Perhaps a leader will start it....but the best way is for the pawns, the people, to wake up and for us to start treating everyone as family. Religions have failed in doing so. Leaders have failed in doing so. If the people wake up, assasinations won't matter...for the people will know what to do....our family stretches all over the globe. Yes, we might get on each other's nerves, but we do not kill each other. We are family. The 100th monkey will have happened finally and irrevocably. The most difficult thing to do is to live with neighbors that have killed your family....that would be tantamount to becoming a saint. But what is past needs to be past for us to move on. That means that all of us pawns need to live a life of peace: that means that any of us pawns might be killed as martyrs. But we would only be killed if some of us pawns do so. I'm just passing through on this planet, and it is not that I would ever want to return any time soon, or for that matter at all, with what I've seen my country do...spraying agent orange and napalm on Vietnamese civilians, using phosphorous bombs and invading South American and African countries with mercenary armies, Supplying Israel with billions while Israel in fact has nuclear weapons and we know it, squelching information that the Mossad was on the 22nd floor of the Twin Towers, turning on Iraq so Cheney and Halliburtn can make millions off the oil, supplying arms to Georgia and then acting all surprised at military action, bombing Afghanistan for a man probably sipping champagne in a New York hotel....but what would you expect from a country that exterminated native peoples and enslaved and tarred and raped and lynched black people all the while quoting the Bible as justification....my country is a lousy example to be sure....but even in this crazy country, people rose up and questioned and spoke, many got beat up and some died to end the unjust wars and stop discrimination. So this pathetic country somehow became united and for all the horror and hell, the states in America do not make war with each other....of course, that doesn't mean we are a peaceful country...but my point is if the US in all its diversity in state philosophy can get along then surely we could all get along as long as we all unite for the good of us all and respect all our divergent ways of giving respect to the one who creates and each other, (And if you're an Athiest - fine), celebrating, dancing, singing - it's so much better than shooting each other. Of course, those that do wrong should be disciplined - hint: it is easier to sue a corporation than a country. There is the option of using the World Court, and If the corprate action resulted in genocide I would recommend the country sieze the assets. Saddam Hussein should have been tried in the World Court, but given the US had much to hide, was not allowed that option. George Bush, Dick Cheney, George Tenet, Collin Powell and Rumsfield should be tried in a World Court for the premeditated murder of Iraqi people and for directly misleading the American people - an action that in itself is High treason. I started off on this dialogue saying that what's past is past and we need to move on. While this is true, I think moving on has a lot to do with some of our leaders facing the music and with the whole world watching the process, perhaps we will become more savvy to the wiles and soft wards of those who twist the truth and prey on our fears. Misinformation and idiot reporting has always been a problem - especially in the United States, although a very few programs are quite good. Therefore, world peace is a huge challenge....not quite all that simple. Still, as I am 55, I say let's go for it. Our miserable collective history of depraved war after war after war is tedious and ridiculous. What the hell. Do onto others. It's that simple. And the rights of all of us should be the same. For particularly heinous crimes, let those accused be tried in a world court and let all of us have access and watch the complexities and intricacies of how things really culminated. This way we will all become hopefully more wise, more tolerant, and more united because someone hurt on the other side of the globe is family first and we should all treat each other as such.

Here's something different yet indeed related to this current discussion. This is also from a site about human rights and imprisonment (with likely torture) and a disregard for the rule of law led by the West...

This latest blog concerns a slice of life out of US/Cairo history books - from an historian - a scholar who knows that/this history well and has some significant concerns.

http://aboutaafia.blogspot.com/2009/06/cairo-matters.html

Here's the latest blog:

He (Obama) illustrated the presence of Islam in the history of his country by mentioning that Morocco was the first to recognize the United States . It's true, but more than a hundred year later the United States consented to the enslavement of this friend by European powers while "the oldest treaty of friendship" was still in tact. "The falcon of Morocco was trapped in the net of deception," Iqbal commented (you can read the whole story in the second volume of my biography of Iqbal).I am reminded of `Black Saturday'. On Friday, 25 January 1952 , British troops patrolling the Suez killed 46 Egyptian policemen. Riots broke out in Cairo the very next day, rendezvous of European elite were burnt down and 17 British people got killed.

Cambridge scholar A. J. Arberry (1905-69) could be just one of many who reacted. In the preface of his next book he lamented the burning of Cairo (but not the death of 46 native policemen) and suggested that the influence of Iqbal and Pakistan must be contained if Western superiority is to be maintained over the East. He suggested that Pakistani and Muslim intellectuals themselves could be enlisted for the task. He was right. Pakistani academia turned out to be so hungry for recognition that they swooned upon reading that preface: a Western scholar had mentioned their country and their national poet!

Unanimously, the academia in Pakistan declared Arberry to be "Iqbal's disciple" and invited him periodically to deliver lectures about Iqbal, Quran and Muslim civilization.
=========
Go to the site to read and add your own comments & find mine there as well:
http://aboutaafia.blogspot.com/2009/06/cairo-matters.html

Let me add that Pakistani Scholars, leaders, lawyers and more have learned their lesson.

Let's also do all we can to make sure that the US and Cairo never again cooperate in the torture of prisoners detained and carried by US secret planes to Morocco among many other sites.

He (Obama) illustrated the presence of Islam in the history of his country by mentioning that Morocco was the first to recognize the United States . It’s true, but more than a hundred year later the United States consented to the enslavement of this friend by European powers while “the oldest treaty of friendship” was still in tact. “The falcon of Morocco was trapped in the net of deception,” Iqbal commented (you can read the whole story in the second volume of my biography of Iqbal).I am reminded of `Black Saturday’.

Unanimously, the academia in Pakistan declared Arberry to be “Iqbal’s disciple” and invited him periodically to deliver lectures about Iqbal, Quran and Muslim civilization.

Let me add that Pakistani Scholars, leaders, lawyers and more have learned their lesson.

Let’s also do all we can to make sure that the US and Cairo never again cooperate in the torture of prisoners detained and carried by US secret planes to Morocco among many other sites.

Our country was not left in shambles. The economic crisis is making people stronger, people are learning how to manage their money now, I know I am. Which has nothing to do with the topic at hand. He is all words (to put it in simple terms) and no play. The media makes Israel out to be the bad guys and he is playing into it. Dislocated? Dislocated, that's the worst that has happened to them...try massacred, tortured, threatened and resented since their existence. But hey, let's do what Carter did and give the Palestinians whatever they want.
