<description>After this article was published, I received the following message from Marilyn Shepherd:

Hello Andy,

I think it can be done with will by Obama without too much drama.

David Hicks has the control order lifted on him next month and can get on with life.

Mamdouh Habib’s new book is breaking hearts all over the country because the utter honesty of his story shines through.

I have just read Jane Mayer’s “The Dark Side” and was struck by her naive belief that this is the first time the US has tortured people.

I watched a film called Winter Soldier, the horrendous testimony and photos and film footage of the Vietnam vets taken from 1966-70, and there is one particular photo that could have been used as a template for Abu Ghraib. It was of a young soldier being photographed by a colleague leaning over the body of a dead Vietnamese civilian and it could have been Sabrina in 2004.

The work of the pro bono lawyers all over the world for these guys has been one of the most remarkable exercises in leadership I have seen in decades.
