[...] I recently approached Col. Wilkerson to ask if he would discuss some of these issues in greater detail, and was delighted when he agreed to be interviewed, as he provided some startling new insights into the conduct of the “War on Terror’; specifically, in this first part, he explained how the State Department had wondered whether the little-reported Dasht-i-Leili container massacre had involved war crimes, how the Bush administration had considered using the Indian Ocean territory of Diego Garcia (leased from the UK) instead of Guantánamo, and how Col. Wilkerson himself believed that some prisoners had been held on Diego Garcia. [...]

[...] This question has been raised since July 2002, when TIME, “quoting a source familiar with the operation,” reported that the alleged senior al-Qaeda operative Abu Zubaydah had been transferred to a prison on Diego Garcia from a US naval ship, and has been reinforced in the years since by other reports, in the US and Spanish media, claiming that other “high-value detainees” — Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Ramzi bin al-Shibh, the Bali bombing suspect Hambali and two of his alleged associates, and Mustafa Setmariam Nasar, the only one of the six who was not eventually transferred to Guantánamo — were also held on the island, as I reported in a detailed article last summer.
The disclosure of information pertaining to military actions that are meant to be kept in secret, whether they actualyl happened or not, is a disgrace and should be criminalized. While the wereabouts of terrorists is something that most civlians think should be transparent to all, I think national security is more important than any given individual's "need to know". They are not the ones fighting this fight, they are the ones at home being armchair warriors showing all of this "heart felt concern" about what is going on outside of the borders of their yard. If you want to know, then you should haev joined the military and worked in Intel or joined the CIA. Otherwise, you simply do not need to know! While the States and other countries around the world must do what they must do to keep the world safe, under no circumstances should information be leaked that compromises what we must do in order to keep said safety in place. Anyone disclosing information like this should have any pension they have earned stripped and they should be in carcerated for a term of no less than 70 years.
